L’Hotel Tirana

L’Hotel Tirana is a small three-star hotel on Rruga Çamëria, a quiet side street in the middle of the Albanian capital, in what guests rate the best area of the city. The location scores 8.5: Skanderbeg Square, the National Museum of History and the Clock Tower are minutes away on foot, and the House of Leaves museum is practically next door.

The property has a single room type, a 20 m² double, so the formula is deliberately simple. Rooms are air-conditioned, with a private bathroom with bath, shower and bidet, hardwood or parquet floors, a flat-screen TV with streaming services and views over the garden or the inner courtyard. Bathrobes, slippers and free toiletries are standard.

Free WiFi covers the rooms and earns 8.9, the highest of all the guest scores, and daily housekeeping keeps things in order. With 699 reviews and an overall 7.7 “Good”, it suits couples and solo travellers who want a walkable, central base. Worth knowing: payment on site is cash only and there is no parking.

On Rruga Çamëria, under 100 metres from the House of Leaves and about 400 metres from Skanderbeg Square.

The hotel's rooms

L’Hotel Tirana keeps the choice simple: the property offers one room type only, the Double Room, so there is nothing to weigh up. It measures 20 m², sleeps up to two guests and comes with a single extra-large double bed in super-king size, which means couples get a genuinely generous sleeping space rather than two beds pushed together.

The room is air-conditioned and has an en-suite bathroom with a bath, a shower and a bidet, plus bathrobes, slippers, a hairdryer and free toiletries. Hardwood or parquet floors, a wardrobe, a safety deposit box, a desk and a flat-screen TV with streaming services complete the picture, and the windows look onto the garden or the inner courtyard.

  • You like museums: the House of Leaves is under 100 m from the door and the National Museum of History a five-minute walk.
  • You are travelling as a couple: the only room type is a 20 m² double with one extra-large super-king bed.
  • You need to stay connected: free WiFi is the property's best-rated feature, at 8.9 out of 10.
  • You appreciate small comforts: bathrobes, slippers, free toiletries and a bath in the private bathroom.

Perhaps not, if...

  • You want to pay by card at the property: only cash is accepted on site, and a €50 refundable damage deposit is collected in cash on arrival.
  • You are driving: the hotel has no parking of its own.
  • You are travelling with a pet: pets are not allowed at this property.
  • You need a cot or an extra bed: cots and extra beds are not available, and there is only one room type.

Facilities and amenities

Facilities at L’Hotel Tirana are practical rather than showy, and they are the ones that actually matter on a short city break. Free WiFi reaches the rooms and is the property's best-rated feature at 8.9, while air conditioning and heating handle both the August heat and the damp Albanian winter.

The private bathroom is well stocked, with bathrobes, slippers, towels, a hairdryer and free toiletries, and there is an electric kettle and a tumble dryer for longer stays. Daily housekeeping, a safety deposit box, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers cover the essentials, and an invoice is provided on request. Note that the hotel has no parking and accepts cash only.

Location and what to see

How to get there

L’Hotel Tirana stands on Rruga Çamëria, a side street barely 400 metres west of Skanderbeg Square, in what guests rate the best-scoring area of the capital. Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa is about 15 km away by road, normally 20 to 30 minutes by taxi outside rush hour. The cheapest alternative is the Rinas Express shuttle, which runs between the airport and Skanderbeg Square roughly every hour, day and night; the ticket costs around 400 lek, is paid in cash on board, and from the square it is a five-minute walk to the door. Albania has almost no passenger rail service useful to visitors, so intercity buses and shared minibuses are the normal way to reach the coast or the mountains. Once you are here, walking is easiest: the centre is flat and compact, and ride-hailing apps are inexpensive when you need one.

What to see

You are in the museum quarter. The House of Leaves, the former secret-police headquarters turned surveillance museum, is under 100 metres from the door, while the National Museum of History and its mosaic façade face Skanderbeg Square alongside the Et'hem Bey Mosque and the Clock Tower. Bunk'Art 2, an underground Cold War bunker off Rruga Abdi Toptani, completes the communism circuit in the same half-day; book ahead in high season. South of the square the Pyramid of Tirana is free to climb, and beyond it Blloku, once closed to ordinary Albanians, is now the café and nightlife district. For a change of scale, the Dajti Ekspres cable car climbs Mount Dajti in about fifteen minutes, and the summit has walking paths and a cafe terrace with a view over the whole plain. May, June, September and October are the pleasant months for walking the city; July and August regularly pass 35 °C.
